Tech buyers love higher resolutions, regardless of need. With Retina displays in Apple products, tech manufacturers know this. They love to compete on having higher hi-def than the next guy.
Is the high resolution needed?
You might spot resolution difference between TV sets if you get close enough. Does resolution really matter for IP cameras like the TRENDnet TV-IP310PI?
Well, do you want to identify criminals on your home CCTV system?
It’s OK if you don’t need to.
.
I’ve used home CCTV kit to watch my fish and to check for the parcel delivery company at my front door. I know, not the most exciting applications. My low-res, budget IP cameras did the job though. Getting a hi-res snap of an intruder’s mug was not a priority.
If you DO need to the image quality to get an ID on criminal around your property, then do not scrimp on pixels.
Are you going to disappointed by your new IP camera system if the image quality is sub par?
If you KNOW part of you really does care about sharp images and decent resolutions, then consider the TRENDnet TV-IP310PI CCTV camera. It delivers high definition images at 2048×1536 pixels and wipes the floor with the cheaper but serviceable cameras we’ve featured on TopCCTVCameras.co.uk.
If I were going to build a CCTV camera system for my home again, I would seriously consider the Trendnet TV-IP310PI as my main outdoor device. It’s easier to install than the TV-IP311PI dome, has lots of third party software management options, and decent firmware support from TRENDnet.
Just make sure you have the network space and capacity if you insist on a full res H.264 stream 24-hours a day.
What else does the Trendnet TV-IP310PI pack under the hood?
Trendnet TV-IP310PI Has The Features You Want
Well, you’re getting a 3MP bullet camera in an IP66 standard waterproof housing. This is an outdoor CCTV camera, although you can by all means mount this indoors.
The TV-IP310PI CCTV camera does not use wireless. This is an important consideration for the home user. You will need to plan on how to run ethernet cables back to your network switch or DVR / NVR.
Installation is simple enough because the TV-IP310PI uses Power-Over-Ethernet (PoE). With a PoE switch, you can power your IP camera and transfer data back to your recorder. The advantage of PoE is a simpler installation. A wired data connection is also more reliable than an wireless IP camera.
The TRENDnet TV-IP310PI has the best image quality, POE, a waterproof housing, and good IR night vision range.
Re-badging secrets of Trendnet TV-IP310PI
We can let you into a little secret here. Many IP cameras are re-badged products from a handful of home CCTV camera system manufacturers. Rebadging is common in the electronics industry.
In this case TRENDnet are re-badging a Hikvision DS-2CD2032-I and flashing their own TRENDnet firmware to the device. Some users have successfully flashed their TRENDnet TV-IP310PI with Hikvision firmware. Doing so let’s the camera work with other third-party CCTV security system software. New firmware can also unlock new features on devices.
I haven’t tried this myself on a TRENDnet TV-IP310PI. If you’re shopping for this great hi-res home CCTV camera though, do check the prices on the Hikvision DS-2CD2032-I. In addition, it is reassuring to know I may have the option to flash my device with different firmwares to suit my needs.
